VTS Workday: Wigi Wetlands

Hi everyone,
Our next volunteer workday will be this Saturday, the 23rd, from 9 to 11am and we will meet in our usual spot behind Walmart at the Bayshore Mall. I know it’s only a couple days before Christmas, but if you’re around we could definitely use the volunteers.
A huge thank you to Dennis Houghton, all the volunteers, and the city staff that made last months workday possible! We removed thousands of pounds of pampas grass and scotch broom with the excavator. The site definitely looks different now! We completely filled the city’s biggest dumpster and got a lot of the plant material offsite, but Dennis removed much more than could fit in the dumpster and we will have to haul off what we can. We’ll work on hauling pampas grass offsite on Saturday so that it doesn’t re-root.
If you aren’t interested in that task we still have plenty to do. There is Himalayan blackberry that needs digging up, scotch broom to be removed, fennel to cut back/dig out, and trash to pick up.
