A Brilliant New Year’s Greetings, Dear Trail Stewards!
There will be NO monthly workday this Saturday, Jan. 4th — so take a rest for the New Year!
… but if you’re up for some reinvigoration, you can link up with the weekly Delta Force crew starting next Tuesday, 1/7 at 9 AM!
Our next monthly workday will be on Saturday, Feb. 1st

THANK YOU for all of your hard work, support, and dedication in building sustainable trails for our community!
We’ve had another great year increasing public access and building new trail sections within the McKay Community Forest — all thanks to the moving force of 800 volunteers contributing over 3,400 volunteer hours in 2024!
This monumental work effort is supported between our monthly Saturday workdays with Community Partner Groups, the weekly Delta Force crew, and weekly support from Court & Community Schools. Each and every volunteer makes such an incredible difference!
Our new high record shows a steady increase in our volunteer base and is helping set the pace for continued growth and expansion of the VTS program throughout the coming year!
In 2025, we are most excited to be connecting the Redwood Acres area to the Redwood Fields and Northridge trail units, and then we’ll be expanding our work out towards the Henderson Ridge.
Much has been accomplished this year thanks to support from volunteers, as we’re making huge strides along the Redwood Acres and Northridge loops while working towards the goal of transforming them into year-round, all-weather trails!
We’ve also done a great job of bringing the Redwood Acres loop up-to-par in order to help provide a means for the Humboldt Composite Mountain Bike Team to host a future race!
All of this could not be possible without YOU being a part of our volunteer workdays — and with your continued help in getting the word out to other members of our community! These public trails are dependent on all of our teamwork in action!
To all of our wonderful Volunteer Trail Stewards:
Thank you so much for your invaluable support !
Building these trails could not be possible without your time, energy, and continued stewardship of our most cherished places!
With special thanks to each our Community Partner Groups:
These community partnerships with VTS have significantly boosted our volunteer workforce and major accomplishments during our monthly Saturday workdays. Thank you all so much for joining us this year — We’d love to keep you in our lineup for 2025!!
We’d also like to give our thanks to Humboldt County for providing work tools and equipment as well as foods, foods, and more foods to sustain and energize our hardworking volunteers!
Many thanks go out to our local food vendors:
… & another special thanks to Jean & John Williams for serving yet another solid year as our superlative volunteer cooks!
We are so grateful for the combined efforts & incredible work being accomplished in the McKay Community Forest … & are looking forward to another year on the trails with you!
With many heartfelt thanks … cheers to all and a Happy 2025 on the trails!
