New and Old, Regular and Occasional — All Volunteers are welcome!
For our April 3rd Wharf Trail VTS Work Day we will be planting native shrubs.
Sunday, April 3rd we will be doing some planting along the trail between Del Norte Street and Schmidbauer Lumber. If you can, please bring a shovel.
We have 52 native shrubs! We were awarded a Conservation Grant from Sequoia Park Zoo for planting these shrubs. Most of them are in 1-gallon containers (five are 5-gallon). So we will be:
Digging holes twice as deep as the containers the plants came in;
Mixing the excavated soil 50-50 with compost;
Putting 1/2 the soil-compost mix back in the hole, add a little water;
Loosening roots if they are root-bound, plant the shrub;
Adding the remaining soil mix around the roots, and add the rest of the water.
Just in case you don’t want to plant shrubs; there is also the opportunity to pick-up litter throughout the Wharf Trail —from Del Norte Street to C Street.
The Weather forecast for Sunday is partly sunny, with a high near 54.
We are following COVID-19 safety measures:
Attend ONLY if you are fully COVID-19 Vaccinated;
If you don’t feel well, don’t come;
Wear a mask within 6 feet of others;
Remain 6 feet apart whenever possible;
Bring your own water, an assortment of snacks & beverages will be available;
Bring your own gloves;
As always, VTS recognize that the trail is open to the public and will allow > 6 foot distance between volunteers and trail users.
