VTS Workday: McKay Community Forest

Join Volunteer Trail Stewards (VTS) for “Delta Force” weekly workdays at the McKay Community Forest
This volunteer crew meets weekly for more labor-intensive trail construction projects within the McKay Community Forest.
Trail-building experience with outdoor tools and equipment is not necessary but is extremely helpful.
When:
Tuesdays & Wednesdays
9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Please aim to arrive by 9:00 so that all tools & supplies are secured before heading out on the trails. Volunteers are not required to stay for full workdays but are asked to arrive at 9:00 so as to easily locate the volunteer crew and varying trail worksites.
Where:
Meet at the storage container at Redwood Fields parking lot on Fern St. (off of Walnut Drive) in Cutten, Eureka.
Why? Build a lasting impact in our community by helping construct new trails that support a diverse range of recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities. Learn new skills, enjoy time outdoors, and build new connections with fellow trail enthusiasts!
Lunch is provided! With generous support from Los Bagels, Ramone’s Bakery & Café, Murphy’s Markets, Eureka Natural Foods, and Babe’s Pizza & Pasta.
Volunteering Guidelines:
- Volunteers are encouraged to arrive 5-10 mins. early so that enough tools and foods can be made available to all.
- Volunteers should wear appropriate work clothing, boots, and bring a small day pack for carrying food and water, as varying project locations will require hiking to access (generally 0.5 mi to 2 mi).
- All volunteers will be required to sign a one-time liability waiver that will cover all subsequent workdays.
- Volunteers can show up for one or all of the weekly workdays and are encouraged to participate regularly.
- All tools, gloves, trail and safe working techniques trainings are provided by Humboldt County and the Volunteer Trail Stewards program.
