VTS Workday: Arcata Community Forest

September 28, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Dear Much Beloved Volunteers,

This is just my reminder that our next work day will occur on Saturday, September 28, 9:00 am – 12 (noon).  The weather looks to be warm and dry!  We will be working on the Bay Trail North and on some of the Arcata Marsh trails.  We are collaborating with the Coastal Cleanup Day and will be doing some mowing and weed eating as well as invasive removal (the fennel is as ‘tall as an elephant’s eye’). Long-time volunteer Jonny Maiullo will work with those doing Coastal Clean-up work, George Ziminisky will work with volunteers dealing with invasives, Korina Johnson will cover check-in and snacks, and Henry (City part-timer) will be present to help.  I am hoping that a seasoned riding mower veteran(s) will be able to keep the mower going on some of the Marsh trails and the Bay Trail North.  The recent rains have revived everything and vegetation is growing again.

Meet at the small parking lot in front of the City of Arcata Corporation Yard (our usual spot).  But, if you are driving, plan to park in the Marsh Interpretive Center parking lot on South ‘G’ Street.

I will make sure that there are snacks . .  no meal (sorry).  If you would be so kind as to RSVP to me (hughes@humboldt.edu) so that I can give George, Korina, and Jonny a sense of the turnout.

I encourage you to bring your own gloves (I’ll have some extra gloves) and water . . . We do work rain or shine.   Let me know if you have any questions.

Rees
