Dear Esteemed Volunteers,
Some years ago we held a number of work days at Carlson Park. Since then the City of Arcata has established a small network of gravel trails, installed a wonderful new playground, and is in the process of finishing new pickleball courts and parking. Many of you probably are unaware of Carlson Park but it is located north of Giuntoli Lane in the Valley West area of Arcata with some very nice access to the Mad River. That is where we will be working on Saturday, July 27th, beginning at 9 am.
I just did a walk through this morning. There is a lot of cutting back brush and weed eating (it would be great to have people come prepared to use a string trimmer) the major trails. Although the City has contracted out trash removal, there is some trash pick-up that we can do. Plenty to be done.
Here’s where we’ll meet for those of you not familiar with the area (see map). It is possible that the new parking lots may be completed and open in a week but, just to be safe we will meet in the playground parking area. Let me know if you need additional directions.
We will work rain or shine. Please wear work clothes, bring work gloves if you have them, and a water bottle. I’ve food for the sandwich bar for lunch.
Let me know if you have any questions and it is always helpful to have you RSVP to me (
hughes@humboldt.edu) so that I can better plan tasks, tools, and food.
I hope to see you on the 27th.
Rees
