VTS + RIPE Workday: Arcata Marsh

Volunteer Event Clearing Fruiting Invasive Ivy at the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary

Sunday August 11, 2024, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Where:
Arcata Marsh, road going out to Klopp Lake, about 220 feet before the parking lot, immediately
west of Hauser Marsh. See star on the attached map.
Park in the parking lot by Klopp Lake. A Humboldt Trails Council official will be there at a table
to greet you and get you going. You will drive past us while we are working on the way to the
parking lot. The fruiting ivy is immediately next to the road.
Migrating birds are eating the ivy berries and widely distributing the seeds. This is one of the
rare instances where fruiting ivy is thriving on the ground, and has been there for a long time.
There are at least six large patches in an approximately 214 foot section of road. The ivy starts
approximately 220 feet from the parking lot.
We worked on this once before and can finish the area in two or three more workdays.
We will have refreshments.
