Arcata Community Forest VTS Workday
June 25, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Dear Wonderful and Incredible Volunteers
Our task for our workday on Saturday, June 25, 9 am – 12 (noon) will be wheelbarrowing rock to cover some of the low areas on the north end of the Ridge Trail. The rock will be staged at the far end of the single track trail so instead of walking in from the West End Road trailhead we will parking and heading in from the area known as ‘Happy Valley’, behind Alves. I’ve added more direction below. If you helped with the re-route we worked on in March, 2021, we will be parking in that same area. In addition to shuttling wheelbarrows, we’ll need volunteers to shovel and volunteers to spread the rock. I’ll make sure that we have some lighter work too. There will be plenty for everyone to do!
We are going to park on City-owned property marked by the red pin. Darius describes access like this, “you drive into Alves [on West End Road] at the southwestern gate by the log deck, drive past the weigh station and continue straight back through Alves’ yard.” I’ll put one of the VTS sandwich board on West End Road by the correct entrance to Alves. We have notified them that there will be private vehicles entering on the 25th. Let me know if you need more guidance.

As always, we will begin at 9 am and conclude about noon. Wear work clothes and shoes, bring work gloves if you have them (although I have some reasonably new gloves in my lending supply), and a water bottle. We work rain or shine! New volunteers welcome and volunteers we haven’t seen in a while. Please don’t come if you feel sick.
One more thing. I usually send out a reminder a few days before the work day. Unless Rachael or Elliott do that, I will not be able to send out a reminder. I’ll be spending next week doing trail work on the Bigfoot Trail in the Marble Mountains and won’t be back until the 24th (but I will be there on the 25th).
Appreciatively,
Rees
